Dr. Kimberly White-Glenn understands the work of literacy from more than one position. As an Assistant Professor of Reading at Alabama A&M University, she prepares educators while drawing on experience as an instructional coach, educational consultant, and secondary intervention specialist. Her professional work focuses on addressing reading underachievement in urban educational settings.
She is returning to the LaVoulle Group's [Read Write Rhyme Conference](https://readwriterhyme.com) in 2027 as a panelist for Women Who Wow: The Cultural Scholars Panel.
Her work connects directly to a question educators face every day: What are students reading, who shapes the information they encounter, and how do we teach them to evaluate it?
Literacy Has Moved Beyond the Printed Page
In February 2025, Alabama A&M announced Dr. White-Glenn's selection to lead the development of a Media Literacy Playbook for the National Council of Teachers of English.
The project addresses the challenges students face when evaluating information in an environment shaped by social media, emerging technologies, and competing claims about what is true. The playbook is designed for high school and college English Language Arts and social studies classrooms. It includes lesson plans, research and writing prompts, scaffolded learning goals, and tools for assessing students' media literacy.
This work offers a practical connection to the conversations we bring to Read Write Rhyme.
Students encounter language through lyrics, video, social media, advertising, news, and classroom texts. They need instruction that helps them examine word choice, identify bias, evaluate evidence, and communicate their own interpretations.
Those skills belong in literacy instruction.
A Place for Research, Culture, and Conversation
[Read Write Rhyme](https://readwriterhyme.com) brings educators, researchers, and school leaders into conversation about literacy, cultural expression, and classroom practice.
Dr. White-Glenn's experience in reading education and media literacy adds a perspective grounded in teacher preparation and the instructional decisions educators make with students.
We look forward to welcoming her back for Women Who Wow: The Cultural Scholars Panel.
